PVD is priced on the area presented to the plasma, not weight. A slim tubular frame costs far less than a solid panel of the same footprint.
The chamber cycle cost is fixed. Filling a load with 400 chair frames instead of 40 cuts the unit rate dramatically.
PVD magnifies defects. Weld marks, pitting and scratches must be removed first, which can be a significant line item on reclaimed items.
Standard TiN gold is the base rate. Rose gold, black titanium and multi-layer shades use additional targets and cycle time.
SS 304 and 316 coat cleanly. Brass, chrome-plated and mixed-metal assemblies need extra pre-treatment and carry a surcharge.
Complex shapes need custom jigs so every face sees the plasma. One-off fixturing is amortised over the order.
